THE INDEPENDENT DESIGNER STORE NEWS BLOG

It is hard for us to comprehend, but Corniche has reached its 50th year. As such we would like to thank all our customers who have supported the shop over that time, both here in Scotland and around the World. Without your support Corniche would have been unable to help introduce so many talented  and inspired designers.

We would like to invite you to join us at the shop on  Saturday 25th May between 1pm-5pm for a celebration of our 50 years and as a thank you for your support. We know so many of you will be unable to join us, but our thanks go out to you equally.

“An Edinburgh Institution like no other – There’s the castle, there’s Carlton Hill, then there’s Corniche” – Cecile Paul

Corniche’s story is a thrilling one that starts before 1975, when Nina, with her flair for fashion, began creating and selling outfits from her shop located in St Mary’s Street. It wasn’t long before she officially named it Corniche in 1975. Thanks to her brother, Bill, who was immersed in Tokyo’s vibrant fashion scene, Nina was introduced to the world of Japanese fashion designers such as Issey Miyaki, Kansai Yamamoto, Tojo, and Michiko Koshino, way before anyone else in the UK. Nina has always been driven by the thrill of discovering new and exciting designers. Over the years, many UK designers like Betty Jackson, Vivienne Westwood, Katharine Hamnett, and Alexander McQueen found a nurturing home in Corniche. The presence of global designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto, and Christian Lacroix has only added to Corniche’s rich tapestry of fashion. Today, Corniche continues to do what it does best: scouting the world for extraordinary designers. Nina, with her undying passion and her dedicated team, ensures that Corniche’s collections remain just as strong and unique. Our customers, our most valuable asset, hail from all corners of the globe – USA, Japan, Africa, China, Australia, Scotland, and the UK. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone for their unwavering support over the years. Nina, Liz, and Ian truly appreciate it.
